Tirana is one of the most targeted cities by the Albanians for living. During the years it has been very welcoming for inhabitants of other districts, but in the same time many others have leaved. However, the number of residents growth rate in the capital has always been growing.

Processing and comments: ODAThe years 2003-2005 marked the highest increase, by 4.8% -6.1%. In 2004 the population of Tirana increased with about 33,000 inhabitants, just as in 2005. After these years, it appears that there was a normalization of in-migration in Tirana and the population growth averaged at 1.7% per year. An absolute comparison, from 2001 to 2009, shows that the population of Tirana has grown by 148,000 inhabitants. This figure is almost equal to the population of a relatively large circle, for example, Fieri or Vlora. According to the official figures, in 2009, about 20% of the resident population of Albania lives in Tirana.
Studying the population flow in Tirana is very interesting. The period 2001-2005 marked the highest figures of in-migration. Each year during this period the difference between the in-migration and out-migration has been over 15,000 inhabitants; in 2005 this difference reached a peak with 29,271 inhabitants. In fact, the trend of coming to the capital city is very natural. What draws attention is the fact that in 2005 the number of inhabitants leaving the city was about 42,000, the largest exodus from Tirana.

Processing and comments: ODAEven in 2006 a high number of migrations were registered, however, since this date there is a stabilization of the population of Tirana, a fact also reflected by a 1.6% growth rate of the population in 2009.
