The Labor Force Indicators in Albania

The employment statistics show the number and characteristics of the labor force in a country. The labor force includes employed and unemployed adults who are able to work.

Open Data Albania has conducted a research work on the employment indicators in Albania based on data provided by INSTAT (Albanian Institute of Statistics) and the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.

As it can be seen from the graph, the most important drop in the number of employees is observed in 2002 with about 154,000 individuals. In 1996, the largest number of employees (officially registered) is recorded (1,138,000 individuals). In the late 2010 there are 916,919 employed individuals.

When we consider the sectors of employment, the following allocation is observed in 2010: about 18.1% of the employees work in the public sector, 26.6% in the non-agricultural private sector and 55.3% in the agricultural private sector.

As it can be seen from the graph, the share of the non-agricultural private sector has been increasing, and this was associated with the reduction of the share of the agricultural private sector and the public one.

What can be noticed is that the agricultural private sector employees around 55.3% of the total number of employed individuals in Albania, it provides about 18% of the GDP, while the share of this very important sector in the government expenditure is only 2.1% (in 2010).
