Two indicators that show the change in the social behavior in our country are also the gross coefficient of marriage and the coefficient of divorce. The gross coefficient of marriage is the number of marriages per 1,000 inhabitants, in a given year, while the coefficient of divorce is the number of divorces per 100 marriages in a given year.

In 1990, 8.9 marriages were realized per one thousand of inhabitants, while in 2013 this indicator was 8.2. This coefficient contains a high margin of error because of the methodology used by the Institute of Statistics. While the number of marriages is obtained from the National Registry where there are listed also the marriage of Albanian citizens not resident in the country, the population is estimated according to the recent Census where immigrants aren?t recorded as resident in other countries but still with Albanian citizenship.

On the other hand, the coefficient of 15.7 divorces per hundred marriages in 2013 indicates a new stage of the social model of the Albanian society. This year, for every hundred marriages realized, sixteen end up in divorces.
